Redfield & Cliff
Parking: Upper Works
- Take trail north towards Indian Pass & Lake Colden
- @ .25m path crosses Hudson over bridge
- @ .35m Calamity Brook trail (marked in red, later blue) forks to R
- This trail is 4.4m and takes approx 2.5 hours
- Brings you along Calamity Brook to Flowed Land and Marcy region
- Henderson monument (2 hours after leaving trailhead)
- Will be at 4.75m at Marshall herd path, there’s a lean to
- Pass the herd path to Marshall, cross a bridge over Colden dam (5.6m in – about 3 hours after leaving trailhead)) and toward the Uphill lean-to
- Lined on one side by steep cliffs dropping down the Opalescent River
- Over a suspension bridge over the Brook
- Approx 3.5-4 hours into hike will reach the lean to (there’s a sign) at 7.5m
- The carins marking the start of Cliff and Redfield is near
- Cliff: path on right, .8 miles to summit, sloggy muddy, cliffy mess
- 2/3 way there is a false summit
- Treed view
- Will reach summit about 5 hours after leaving trailhead
- 1 hour to get back down
- Redfield: path on left, mostly a rock hop that follows Uphill Brook for 1.1 miles
- Straight forward, not too steep until just below the summit
- 1 hr 15 mins from base to summit (and same down)
- Views of Marcy, Gray, Skylight, Algonquin, Iroquois, Marshall, Allen
- Head back the way you came
- An hour to Colden Dam
- 45 mins to Henderson
