Tabletop

Tabletop

7/3/16

Parking: Adk Loj
Group: Mom, Shawn, Emily & Murphy

Tabletop was one of our orphaned mountains that we needed to grab before finishing up our 46.  This mountain can easily be tagged onto to several of it’s neighbors (Phelps, Marcy, Colden, etc) but we just kept leaving it out.  So, after a beautiful wedding in Bolton Landing that Saturday night, we drove up and slept in the car so we could hit the trail early Sunday morning (we had a big hiking weekend planned – we needed to drive down to Upper Works after we we visited Tabletop to grab Marshall (and Redfield) that afternoon.

Murph loves a good opportunity to sleep right on top of Shawn

car

From high heels to hiking boots ^^

Because of the holiday weekend, the parking lot was PACKED.  There were cars lined down the Loj Road further than I have ever seen.  We were on the trail by 6:45am and at the dam before 7:30am.

Ten minutes later and we had signed in on the other side of the dam. We stayed left on the blue trail towards Phelps/Marcy.

junction

We passed the Phelps junction an hour and twenty minutes into the hike, and then arrived at the Tabletop junction 35 minutes after that.

It took 40 minutes to reach the summit from the junction, and we enjoyed the views for about 20 minutes before heading back down.

I can’t handle Murphy’s face in this summit pic hahahah

Thumbs up for Haystack, where we would be in a week for #46!

The way back to the car took pretty much the same amount of time, as we passed soooo many people on the trail that we kept stopping to step aside/chat/etc.

The crooked bridge isn’t crooked anymore; I’m so upset!

Boots off: 12:24pm, 5 hours and 40 minutes after departure

We stopped for lunch at the Noonmark Diner, and my grilled cheese with fries, tomato bisque soup, and vanilla milkshake hit.the.spot.  And they let Murph sit out on the porch with us!
