Tennessee
When we finally reached the end of Virginia, we arrived to State #12: Tennessee. We were there for three days before reaching the section of the Trail that follows the Tennessee/North Carolina border. The pictures in this post are from those first three Tennessee-only days.
This is one of the Trail’s original shelters that should only be used now in case of an emergency, but it’s so cute and tiny!
Trail maintainers are the best. If you can’t move the trunk, then you use it to your advantage
Those first few days in Tennessee were some of my fondest memories of the trail. I loved the gentle, rolling ridgeline because you could watch the sun set at night before setting up camp and then you would get to watch it rise on the other side the next morning.
We took an enjoyable half day off at a brand new hostel that opened half way through the season this year. We heard about it through the trail grapevine, which is the most reliable source out there. We spent our anniversary filling ourselves up on Mickey D’s and then watching Lord of the Rings on DVD. We finished it off by splitting a box of spaghetti before heading out again the next morning 🙂
I loved the quote a fellow hiker had painted on their garage while she was staying there.
If you come across a waterfall and DON’T have a photo shoot, then did you really see a waterfall?
As you can see from these pictures, even the “Hardcore (hell yeah!!!) Cascades” were dry
